Application
Aluminum chloride is a key intermediate in the manufacture
of a wide variety of specialty and commodity chemicals. Applications
include the oxidation of titanium chloride, alkylation of olefinic
esters and production of hydrocarbon additives. Finished products
include titanium dioxide, synthetic detergents, pharmaceutical
intermediates, styrene and ethyl benzene.
Particle
Size
Vanchlor offers four standard mesh sizes along with a variety
of custom sizes
|
-40
Powder
A free flowing powder that insures minimum reaction time
yet can be transferred via additive feeders. Typically,
98% will flow through 40 mesh sieve, 65% through 100 mesh
and less than 5% retained on 325 ASTM E-11
-20
Powder
An intermediate powder normally used when handling systems
will not allow processing of the -40 powder. Typically,
95% will flow through 20 mesh sieve, and 60% through a 100
mesh screen. A slightly slower reaction time can be expected
with decrease dusting.
-4/+14
This fine crystal is ideal for hand or direct addition due
to the minimum amount of fine particles. It is also used
for pilot and start-up formulations or recirculation streams.
Typically, 95% will flow through a 4 mesh sieve and 85%
held on a 14 mesh screen.
Custom
Grinds
Vanchlor has available a unique combination of grade separation
and size reduction equipment that offers a wide variety
of custom formulations.

Packaging
and Shipping
Anhydrous aluminum chloride is packaged in a variety of containers
including bags, drums, rigid flo-bins and bulk tank trucks*
|
Drums
Full open head steel drums with vent cap. Typical capacities
include: 50 lbs., 100 lbs., 500 lbs., 550 lbs., and 600
lbs. net. Drum quantities should not be double stacked.
Rigid
Flo-bins
Two types are available: 40 cubic feet (3000 lbs.) and 74
cubic feet (5000 lbs.) with an 8 inch butterfly valve. Loading
accuracy is + 2lbs.
Bulk
Bulk tank trucks are available for large users of anhydrous
aluminum chloride. Typical loads are approximately 45,000
lbs. Product is emptied form the tank using a pneumatic
transfer system. The product arrives at the customers' plant
in pneumatic trailer ready to be unloaded. The customer
supplies 150 cfm of -80oF dew point nitrogen at 15-18 psig.
Hoses used during offloading must meet pressure rating an
certification requirements for this application.
*Special
containers are available upon request to meet the specific
needs of our customers.
